NLP Skills: Using Them To Anchor Great Resource States

Regardless of whether you have learned about Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) in a book, or you have received professional instruction in NLP, it is always worth enhancing your NLP skills. If you include NLP skills into your everyday life, you furnish yourself more choices about how you live . In fact, NLP offers you the resources and strategies to improve your relationships, your communication skills and to excel in whatever you wish to accomplish.

One of the things you will frequently hear spoken about with respect to NLP skills is resource states. Suppose that you could feel any way you want to feel any time you desire, and it is really as effortless as breathing. How great would that be!

There are most likely numerous occasions when you would like to be in more effective control of your feelings, but as yet you have not been able to become expert in this ability. You will perhaps identify with men and women who have problems with stage fright. We don’t even have to be in the situation. Merely thinking about it can easily bring us out into a cold sweat. We remember times when we have been anxious in front of others before, and we might even use our imaginations to think about all the things that might go awry. And so, it is somewhat a self-fulfilling phophecy.

Actually, this is a great example of how skilled we are at state induction. It is something that we have practised over and over, and have got it down to a fine art. Sad to say, the resource state we produce is counter-productive.

Given your previously demonstrated expertise at resource state induction, how would you like to feel instead of worried? The choice is yours, but it would most likely be valuable to be confident and relaxed. Well, you do already know what it is like to be like this. Just settle down and think back to when you last felt stress-free and self-assured. Perhaps it was yesterday or perhaps many years ago. Recollect everything about it, from how you was standing, how you were breathing, how you felt, what you noticed and what you were listening to at that time.

In the unlikely event that you are not able to recollect any moments when you experienced the kind of states that you are seeking to access, then you possibly know somebody who is a role model for you, who you can copy. Perhaps you know them personally or they are a public figure, and you can easily picture how they would tackle your situation and behave as they would. Observe, hear and sense as they would and replicate their behavior.

When you have achieved the desired state, ramp it up to make it as vivid and appealing as possible. This is where one of your other NLP skills comes into play. This is called anchoring. In this case, an anchor is a trigger for the state change. So, when you are fully experiencing the state such as calm and confident, that you want to re-induce in the future, you could, for example, scratch the back of your neck or squeeze together the thumb and index finger of your right hand; it is your choice. In this way, the chosen action becomes part of the calm and confident state. So, when you do the trigger action again, for example, as you think about or enter the situation where you would previously have been nervous, you naturally enter the desired resource state.
You are most likely now acknowledging the value of practising the NLP skills of generating resource states and anchoring. These are NLP techniques that you can apply to all areas of your life. Of course, the benefit of mastering these skills is that the ensuing states will significantly enhance your communication skills and have a good impact on the other people that you come into contact with.
