Working With Your NLP Skills To Produce Great Resource States
When you study and practise NLP skills, you are taking steps to taking full responsibility (or possibly that could say response-ability) for your life. Not only can your NLP skills be utilized to help you learn more easily and increase your level of enthusiasm, but they will likewise enable you to develop into an outstanding communicator. Furthermore you will be in a position to extend your expertise to other people both in your personal and business life.
The subject of this piece is resource states, as talked about in the context of NLP skills. What if you could wave an imaginary magic wand and feel any way you would like to feel, as soon as you like. Now that would be something worth having!
You understand that there are situations when we wish that we could behave differently. For instance, numerous individuals are really scared of speaking before crowds. Even worrying about it ahead of time, we can turn ourselves into nervous wrecks. We remember times when we have been stressed in front of people previously, and we might even use our imaginations to conjure up everything that could go wrong. And hence, it is something of a self-fulfilling phophecy.
In fact, this is a prime illustration of how effective we are at state induction. It is something that we have practised again and again, and have got it down to a fine art. However, the resource state we generate is counter-productive.
So, what type of emotional state would be advantageous in this circumstance? You would most likely like to be comfortable and confident. There have probably been a lot of additional situations when you have encountered these feelings previously. Just sit back and think back to when you last felt relaxed and confident. Perhaps it was yesterday or perhaps years ago. Recall everything about it, from how you was standing, how you were breathing, how you felt, what you saw and what you heard at that time.
Now, if you are imagining that you can’t do this because you have not felt this way previously, then visualize how somebody who is calm and confident would stand, breathe and feel. Possibly this is somebody you admire for being this way. When you have achieved the desired state, ramp it up to make it as vivid and appealing as possible. This is where one of your other NLP skills comes into play. This is called anchoring. In this case, an anchor is a trigger for the state change. So, when you are fully experiencing the state such as calm and confident, that you want to re-induce in the future, you could, for example, scratch the back of your neck or squeeze together the thumb and index finger of your right hand; it is your choice. In this way, the chosen action becomes part of the calm and confident state. So, when you do the trigger action again, for example, as you think about or enter the situation where you would previously have been nervous, you naturally enter the desired resource state.
When you become a master of the NLP skills of inducing positive resource states and effectively anchoring them, then you bring so many more opportunities into your life because you know that you can’t be thrown by any situation. Even if you are initially, you have the essential skills to recover the situation and make sure that you act to the best of your ability.
