NLP Skills: Using Them To Create Good Resource States

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) delivers a whole range of approaches and methods for introducing change in both your everyday life and the everyday life of those you love and everybody else too. If you try out your NLP skills regularly, then you will start to find that the quality of your relationships and your communication skills will improve greatly. In addition, your NLP skills will help you to be equipped to accomplish things better and more rapidly.

The topic of this piece is resource states, as spoken about in the context of NLP skills. Let’s say you could wave an imaginary magic wand and feel any way you desire to feel, anytime you want. Now that would be a gift worth having!

You know that there are situations when we wish that we could behave in a different way. For instance, numerous individuals are quite scared of speaking before crowds. We do not actually have to be in the situation. Just thinking about it can easily bring us out into a cold sweat. Our imaginations go into overdrive as we review all the other times when we have felt worried, and then they amplify all those lousy feelings, secure in the certainty that it is destined to happen again. And hence, it is somewhat a self-fulfilling phophecy.

Actually, this is a perfect illustration of how effective we are at state induction. It is something that we have done frequently, and have got it down to a fine art. However, the resource state we create is counter-productive.

So, what type of emotional state would be valuable in this situation? You would probably like to be relaxed and self-assured. There have probably been a lot of additional situations when you have encountered these feelings previously. Just close your eyes and think back to when you last felt stress-free and self-assured. Perhaps it was yesterday or perhaps years ago. Call to mind everything about it, from how you was standing, how you were breathing, how you felt, what you saw and what you were listening to at that time.

Now, if you are imagining that you can’t do this because you have never felt this way previously, then visualize how a person who is relaxed and self-assured would stand, breathe and feel. Possibly this is a person you admire for being this way. You may have noticed that sometimes that there little things that trigger memories and all the associated feelings you experienced at the time. Maybe, it is someone giving you a slap on the back that reminds you of how you felt when your father gave you a congratulatory one upon your passing an exam, or perhaps a whiff of a certain perfume brings to mind a romantic dance. These triggers are known as anchors, and as one of your NLP skills, you can choose an appropriate anchor and integrate it into the resource state that you are working on. So, you need to make your chosen state as big and bold as you can and then build in an anchor, such as scratching the tip of your nose. Then, whenever you do this action again, it will bring back the feelings of the resource state automatically.

When you grow to be a master of the NLP skills of inducing favorable resource states and effectively anchoring them, then you bring so many more options into your life as you know that you can’t be thrown by any situation. Even if you are to begin with, you have the necessary skills to retrieve the situation and ensure that you act to the best of your potential.
